Amaravati: The government decided to shift the Hyderabad Secretariat employees by June 27 but the slow pace of works seems to hit the shifting process.
The completion of temporary Secretariat works became a Herculean task to the CRDA. The temporary Secretariat works are yet to be completed by the deadline of June 15 as no one block out of the total five blocks are ready.
According to the sources of CRDA, only the works of two blocks carried out by Shapooreji and Pallonji were under progress but the rest of the three blocks under construction by L & T were at a very slow pace.
The flooring, concealed electric wiring, partitions, air-conditioners, water extinguisher pipelines, top false cealing, front office decoration, drinking water supply pipelines, alternative generator lines, toilets, lifts, staircase and other works were not completed in any block of the temporary Secretariat blocks.
The work on internal roads and side drains is still at a slow pace and not a single internal road constructed which reflects the snail’s pace of work.
The sources said that the shortage of workers is the main cause behind the slow pace of the work. The contractors are offering very less wages to the workers which is forcing the workers to leave the work of the temporary Secretariat.
The workers are lamenting that they are leaving the work due to scorching heat and unaffordable conditions, the contractors have stopped three months of wages to keep the workers at the work.
CRDA vice-chairman and minister for municipal administration P. Narayana, responding to the shortage of workers for the L & T, had arranged masons and skilled construction workers from Rajamundry, Visakha-patnam, Eluru, Kakinada, Vijayawada, Guntur, Mangalagiri and other areas.
But these workers expressed dissatisfaction over the less payment compared to the open market. Workers, N. Yedukondalu and others alleged that the contractor is offering only Rs 350 to Rs 450 per day and weekly cash payment which is not affordable to them.
They claimed that they are getting Rs 750 per head for eight hours of work per day for head worker and Rs 650 per head per day for a worker so they are unable to work. They added that workers will not work for half payments and sought payment of proper wages.
