Russian tourist stabs three at Baga
Calangute: A petty quarrel turned violent at Baga, Calangute on Tuesday morning, leaving three persons with stab injuries after a scuffle between them and a Russian tourist.
The incident occurred at around 8.25am. The Russian national involved in the incident, Aduard Petroech Goryachai, 35, who was allegedly in a intoxicated state at the time of the incident, attempted to flee from the spot in a car towards Morjim, but was nabbed by the police.
It was a long chase by the policemen and assisted by some locals. To dodge the police, he tried to go into the water but was nabbed by them.
The three injured were identified as H Kumar, 22, a resident of Sinquerim; Vaghuram Deveshi, 22, and Mukesh Thapa, 25, both residents of Calangute. Two of them were working at a shop and for a rent-a-bike operator. After the incident, the injured were rushed to the Candolim primary health centre. The three sustained stab injuries to their hands and shoulders. Doctors at the Candolim PHC administered first aid and referred them to GMC at Bambolim.
Goryachai was taken to the institute of psychiatry and human behaviour at Bambolim for a medical check-up.
Calangute police have registered an offence under Sections 324, 452, 427, 323, 326 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code and are conducting further investigations.
The police are verifying whether the Russian has a valid passport.
