SHABQADAR: The Mardan counter-terrorism department raided Shabqadar and found a suicide vest, along with some ammunition. “The raid was conducted after a tip-off on the presence of suspects in the area. They have been arrested and taken to an undisclosed location,” a department official said.

“Two suicide vests, same number of hand grenades and Kalashnikovs, 10 kilogrammes of explosives and 10 safety fuses with batteries were found along with ammunition and boots.”

An eyewitness told The Express Tribune, “CTD raided a sugarcane factory in Haleemzai on the outskirts of Shabqadar at 6am on Tuesday. The location was a kilometre outside Shabqadar and a suspect was taken into custody.

Local sources said sugarcane was only produced in winter and such buildings could easily be used by terrorists for their activities.

In recent days, the Shabqadar border region with Mohmand has seen various acts of violence.  An army recruit was killed after he was abducted from his home, while separately a khasadar official and a Military Engineering Services official were killed last week in Michni.
