ACB arrests 2 engineers for taking bribe in Kota dvn of WCR

Busting a nexus of corruption in the engineering wing of Kota division of Western Central Railways(WCR), the Anti-Corruption Bureau(ACB) on Tuesday have arrested two engineers for allegedly accepting a bribe of nearly Rs 2 lakh. One of the arrested engineers is an officer of 1999 batch from Indian Engineering Services (IES).

JAIPUR: Busting a nexus of corruption in the engineering wing of Kota division of Western Central Railways (WCR), the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday has arrested two engineers for allegedly accepting a bribe of nearly Rs 2 lakh. One of the arrested engineers is an officer of 1999 batch from Indian Engineering Services (IES).
Dinesh MN, Inspector General of Police, talking to TOI on Tuesday, said, “The complainant who is a contractor engaged in infrastructural work with the Kota division of West Central Railways (WCR) approached us stating that the officers including Manvendra Singh, Senior Divisional Engineer, Kota and Suresh Singh, Divisional Engineer, Kota were demanding bribe in lieu of clearing his outstanding bills of Rs 7.50 crore.
The officers had demanded a bribe of 2 percent from the total bill.”
“After getting the complainant a team of officers verified it and laid trap in which both the officers were caught red handed for accepting bribe. Manvendra was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 1.07 lakh while Suresh was arrested for taking Rs 92,000.”
Soon after the arrest, the sleuths of ACB were on the job of search operation at the respective houses and offices of the officials.
“We have seized Rs 11 lakh from the house of Suresh, a suitcase having currency notes of more than Rs 25 lakh. Some jewellery, which is under valuation, and some property papers have also been seized. Now, we will register a separate case of disproportionate income against the officer,” he added.
Likewise, ACB has also seized Rs 3.66 lakh, jewellery papers and property papers from the house of Manvendra.
It may be recalled that Manvendra had already got Rs 8 lakh as bribe before complainant approached ACB while Suresh had taken Rs 1.5 lakh as bribe. Manvendra is 1999 batch officer of Indian Engineering Services who is posted in Kota since October, 7, 2015 while Sureh who had joined railways in 1991 got promoted with IEC rank on July,06, 2012.
