‘Don’t approach election as a ‘do-or-die’ affair’
Politicians have been urged not to approach the forthcoming general election as a ‘do-or-die’ affair.

Rather, they should appreciate the electoral process as a battle of ideas to get the mandate of the people.
A former Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Dr Doreen Owusu-Fianko, said this at a launch of a campaign for peaceful election in Accra last week.
Christened, “I Pledge for Peace Campaign Ghana (IPPC),” the campaign is aimed at getting one million Ghanaians to append their signatures to ensure peace before, during and after the general elections.
IPPC is an initiative of a security firm, Security Warehouse Limited, Ghana.
Ambassadors of the project, which include the Parish Priest of the Christ the King Catholic Church, Rev. Father Andrew Campbell; the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Jonny Osei Kofi; a former entertainment show presenter with an Accra based television station, TV3, Mr Iso Paelay, and the president of IPPC, Mr Adam Bonaa, all appended their signatures to support the initiative.
Credibility
Dr Owusu-Fianko said election was about credibility, integrity and trust in the candidates and not about character assassination or inciting one group against another.
“According to a report from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), there have been 15 wars during elections nine of which occurred in Africa, hence the need for us to preach peace before, during and after elections in Ghana.
“It is, therefore, imperative for Ghanaians to strive to ensure peaceful elections. Peace is God’s idea and forms the basis for national development,”she said.
On that score, she lauded the organisers of the campaign for peace and entreated politicians to ensure peaceful and successful election come November 7.
