Horticulture suffers Rs 1568 Cr. loss in floods, rain, GOI yet to release funds

Srinagar, Jun 14 (UNI) The Horticulture sector has suffered Rs 1568 crore loss in the Kashmir valley during 2014 devastating flood and incessant rain.
However, the Government of India (GoI) has yet to release any funds for paying compensation to farmers, Minister Incharge Horticulture Gulam Nabi Lone said in reply to a question by Mohammad Akbar Lone in the Legislative Assembly today.
The reply said crop loss of Rs 1,568 crore was assessed by the Revenue Department for Horticulture sector due to incessant rains and floods of September 2014. However, 50 per cent compensation of Rs 748 crore was recommended by the revenue department and was included in the Memorandum submitted to the GoI.
