Coimbatore: The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) J K Tripathy met with SPs of Special Task Force (STF), Nilgiris and Coimbatore district here on Monday and ordered STF officials to provide training to Naxalite Special Division (NSD) police personnel of Coimbatore and Nilgiris at STF campus at Sathyamangalam.
The purpose of the meeting was to curb entry of maoists into Tamil Nadu border areas in Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts.
The two districts have an NSD team to conduct combing operations in the Kerala -Tamil Nadu border areas to prevent maoist entry.
Training for the team is essential to tackle any kind of situation in forest area, said Tripathy. According to police sources, the ADGP has advised the SPs to conduct combing operations in the reserve forest area with the help of forest staff. He also advised the NSD team to maintain good relationship with the tribals to get vital information regarding maoist movements.
STF superintendent of police Karuppasamy, Nilgiris and Coimbatore SPs Murali Rambha and RV Ramya Bharati participated in the meeting.
When contacted, Tripathy said that it was a routine review meeting and there was no particular crisis regarding maoist intrusions.
