Anti-terror cop shot dead in Quetta

QUETTA - A police official was shot killed in firing by armed assailants in Quetta’s Sariab Road area, here on Monday.

The police sources said that unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on CTD officer Shabbir Ahmed, leaving him critically injured.

The attackers managed to escape from the scene.

“Shabbir Ahmed suffered gunshot wounds in firing by armed men in Shafi Colony, Sariab Road area of the provincial capital,” they said.

The rescue team rushed to the site and was shifting the injured to hospital when he succumbed to his bullet injuries. The body was shifted to hospital for post-mortem and legal formalities.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility and the officials said that they would not comment on who might be behind the attack.

The Sariab police have registered a case against unknown accused and launched investigation into the incident to trace the suspects. Further probe was underway.

Police said Shabbir was on his way to office when he was targetted.

The deceased was serving in Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the body was shifted to hospital for post-mortem.

SIX FACILITATORS OF

MILITANTS SURRENDER

At least six facilitators of militants have surrendered to Frontier Corps Balochistan in a ceremony held in Noshki, on Monday.

A spokesman for FC said here that accused were involved in facilitating militant organization in committing terror acts and anti-peace activities.

“These six facilitators, however, surrendered themselves to FC Balochistan,” he said, adding that a ceremony was held in Noshki area where surrender of the facilitators took place.

The FC spokesman further said that the ceremony was attended by senior FC officials, tribal elders, local notables and the officials of district management. He said the six facilitator surrendered on Monday had facilitated militants in different parts of the province.

He added that under the command of Inspector General, FC Balochistan, Maj-General Sher Afgun, FC would continue playing its important role in restoring peace and make Balochistan a peaceful land.
