Complaint against Mission Kakatiya in Lokayukta

The Institution of Lokayukta for the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has admitted a complaint filed by B. Rammohan Reddy, president of Telangana Yuva Shakti party, recently alleging that there were large-scale irregularities in the implementation of Mission Kakatiya programme.

Registrar of the institution P. Dayakar Reddy directed the complainant to submit his report in duplicate before July 18 and posted the matter to that date.

In his complaint lodged with the Lokayukta, Mr. Rammohan Reddy said there was massive corruption in the programme taken up with an investment of over Rs.20,000 crore. Listing some basic irregularities, the complainant said no curing was done for cement-concrete works, there was no proper quality check of works done, benefit-cost ratio was not being taken into consideration and work was limited mostly to silt removal.

Further, he pointed out how the government wanted to restore the designed capacity of the tank and stabilise the tail-end ayacut, if any, when no steps were being taken to resume/get vacated encroachments in the foreshore areas (‘shikam’ lands) of tanks. Besides, he raised doubts over success of the programmes since no afforestation measures were being taken up in the catchment areas. Mr. Rammohan Reddy requested the Lokayukta institution to call for tank-wise detailed records of works taken up under Mission Kakatiya.
