Allahabad: Keeping an eye on the Nishad community which has a sizable presence in Allahabad's Daraganj, Arail, Jhunsi and
Karchana areas besides adjoining Mirzapur, Bhadohi and
Fatehpur districts that could play a decisive role in forthcoming elections, PM
Modi did not forget to mention the city as the land of Nishadraj. During his speech on Monday, Modi called Allahabad as the 'Nishadraj ki dharti' more than three times in a bid to reach out to the community which is belived to have backed the
BJP in the 2014 parliamentary elections.
Allahabad is known for its Nishadraj connection due to Shringaverpur, 45 km from the city. As per Hindu mythology,
Shringaverpur was the place where Lord
Ram crossed the
Ganga on his way to exile along with goddess Sita and brother Lakshmana.
