Qatar has reiterated that the Palestinian question is the central issue on which depends the peace and stability in the Middle East.
This came in Qatar’s speech delivered by Faisal bin Abdullah al-Henzab, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations and other international organisations office at Geneva yesterday at the 32nd session of the Human Rights Council, item (2) entitled general debate about the updated statement of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
He said, “We warn that failure to end the Israeli occupation of all Palestinian and Arab territories, its insistence on continuing settlement expansion, the Judaisation of Jerusalem, the continuation of the unjust siege on Gaza, the policies of collective punishment, house demolitions, will lead all to undermine all efforts to reach a just, comprehensive and lasting settlement that will restore all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, based on the resolutions of international legitimacy.”
On Syria, al-Henzab warned: “The situation has become catastrophic at all levels. A serious systematic policy of violations has resulted in hundreds of thousands of casualties and the displacement of millions, in light of the failure and inability of the international community.”
Al-Henzab stressed that Qatar strongly condemned the violations and crimes committed by the Syrian regime and its allies against the defenseless civilians, and the shelling of the refugee camps and hospitals in city of Aleppo. Qatar has also condemned all crimes committed by terrorist groups, and called for ensuring the accountability of all those responsible.
On Yemen, Qatar stressed that the country is facing a real humanitarian crisis due to violations of Houthis and the militia of the ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh, “who targeted civilians, bombed and destroyed property, and imposed a siege and blocked access to humanitarian aid.”
Al-Henzab said that Qatar has stressed that it will continue to provide all support for the success of the ongoing peace talks in Kuwait in order to reach a political settlement in accordance with the GCC initiative.
