Una, June 13

The Forest Department today seized a truck that was illegally carrying 16 tonnes of khair wood. The truck (HR-58 1717) was intercepted at a forest naka led by Assistant Conservator of Forests Rahul Sharma.

Divisional Forest Officer RK Dogra said the truck had entered Una from Punjab and its trailer was covered. He said as per the forest produce transit rules, the logs being transported should have the hammer print of the Forest Department on one side, but the logs seized did not have any such markings.

Dogra said the documents, which were in the possession of the driver, were being verified. He said the wood, estimated at Rs 1.2 crore, had been seized and kept at a forest nursery in Ghandawal village and the two occupants of the vehicle had been taken into custody.
