Narayangarh: The proof of victory in Narayangarh is in daler bora.
Before Bengal went to polls, chief minister Mamata Banerjee had appealed to the people of the West Midnapore village to give her "a chance to visit Narayangarh again, to savour the famous daler bora there", insinuating that they should vote her candidate to victory. The people seemed to listen to her "request" as five-time MLA and CPM state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra was defeated.
Mamata kept her part of the promise on Monday, when she paid a visit to Narayangarh, showering sops on the people of Bengal. As for daler bora, she declined to taste it on the stage, in solidarity with those observing Ramzaan, but had it later in the greenroom.
Mishra had become synonymous with the Narayangarh seat, which he had been winning since 1991; in fact, it was a traditional Left bastion with the CPM holding sway on the seat since 1982. But after the 2016 assembly election results were declared, it was payback time for Mamata and her party. And for the first time, Narayangarh on Monday figured in her first district meeting she convened after taking the reins of Bengal for the second time.
Listing out the bounty for the electorate, Mamata promised to set up the Narayangarh college at Ratipur and sub-station at Gouma, as a "mark of her gratitude to the people there". Taking a dig at Mishra, who used to be the health minister during the Left regime, she blamed him for "turning state hospitals into a living hell". But now, the chief minister assured her audience, Narayangarh would get a 300-bed super-specialty hospital within two years. The cost of the project has been estimated at around Rs 65 crore. Further, as good news for the people of Narayangarh as well as
Sabang, she said her government would build the embankments along the Kapaleshwari and Keleghai rivers at the earliest. Also, to save Ghatal from being inundated from overflowing rivers, Mamata said she had forwarded the long-pending "masterplan" to the Centre, asking for quick implementation of the project that would include building and repairing roads and constructing bunds. While she promised to accelerate the distribution of benefits of Kanyashree, Yubashree and Sabuj Sathi schemes, the CM pointed out that the state faced much hardship as the Modi government was not releasing development funds.
About Jhargram becoming a full-fledged district soon, a new DM's office is being planned, while the SP's office will be in Kadamkanan at the forest department's training centre. For a police line, the administration has zeroed in on a 24-acre plot near Jhargram zoo; Rs 50.28 crore will be spent on the premises that will house the SP's bungalow, eight DSP offices besides other offices and quarters. Mamata is slated for a meeting at Jhargram today.
Mamata Banerjee cabinet had decided this in December, 2015. Jhargram district will comprised of 539.64 sq km and will have two sub divisions -- Jhargram and Gopiballavpur. Now Jhargram sub-division has eight blocks and Jhargram municipality. The new Jhargram sub-division will have six blocks -- Jhargram, Manikpara, Binpur, Belpahari, Lalgarh and Jamboni. While, Gopibaalavpur will have five blocks -- Gopiballavpur I & II, Sankrail, Nayagram and Chandadila.
Since 2012 January, Jhargram is operating as a separate health district and has a district hospital.
In April, 2010 Jhargram police district and a separate district excise office is operating since 2012.
