Allahabad: The
Bharatiya Janata Party (
BJP) ended its two-day national executive meeting in the city on Monday laying down a seven-point roadmap to guide the conduct of party leaders and workers in a bid to enhance the party's credibility ahead of the crucial 2017 UP assembly polls. Besides, the party deliberated on two aspects - an analysis of the current political scenario and the way the economy could be given a boost.
Prime Minister
Narendra Modi reportedly ended the meet with a 40-minute-long speech.
In an apparent bid to rein in party leaders damaging the image of party through their statements, the PM initiated a seven-point formula to serve as a guiding principle for the conduct of party leaders and workers.
"In his speech, the PM came out with seven points to fix the conduct of party leaders and this will be reflected in the policies of the government," said
Finance Minister Arun
Jaitley, while elaborating on the outcome of the two day-meet. "The seven points relate to 'sevabhav' (feel of service), 'santulan' (balance), 'sanyam' (self-restrain) 'samanvay' (co-ordination), 'sakaraatmak' (positivity), 'samwad' (communication) and 'samvedna' (compassion)," said Jaitley. The PM also directed party leaders to use their "power for the service of people and not to enjoy comforts from it".
"The people of country cannot be satisfied by mere slogans, as they are observing how the country is becoming self-reliant day by day. Earlier, on several occasions, there were opportunities to bring in an industrial revolution in the country - but all (opportunities) were missed," said Jaitley, adding: "Still, at present, we have a chance to become one of the powerful economies of the 21st century."
Jaitley said that the meet took place at a time when politics in the country was passing through a crucial juncture. "The year 2016 has its own importance, as after two years of successful governance the BJP has increased its presence geographically in the country. The party has won
Assam and has increased its vote share in Bengal, Kerala and
Tamil Nadu," he said.
During the meet, the party also discussed how it has been successful in marginalising the opposition
Congress Party. "In 2014, there was yawning gap between the two parties, but after two years the political scenario has completely changed," said Jaitley.
