Madhya Pradesh's first digital panchayat will be inaugurated at Karanja, some 450 kms from the state capital in Balaghat district on Tuesday morning. Karanja is the birth place of Balasaheb Deoras, the third sarsanghchalak of the RSS. Top BJP and RSS leaders will be at Karanja on Tuesday where cabinet expansion and the newly constituted core group of the BJP is likely to be discussed.

Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was to inaugurate the digital panchayat but is reportedly not coming anymore. BJP vice president and state in charge Vinay Sahasrabuddhe would be present at the function.
Once digitally linked, the panchayat office will be able to provide documents such as birth and death certificates, there will be a gateway for payment of MNREGS wages and land records will also be available at the village level, said Balaghat collector, Bharat Yadav. He said digitally connecting the panchayat will improve its working because 25% of the panchayats in the Lanji block, where Karanja is located is affected by left wing extremism (LFE) where connectivity has always been an issue.
