Let's see if all the hype about the album is actually worth it or not.

Music director Santhosh Narayanan has been in huge demand in 2016. He has scored the music for Sethupathi, Iraivi and now for Rajinikanth's Kabali. Surely, if he was roped in to score the music for such a huge film, there must something special about him. Also, we must keep in mind that the music of Rajinikanth's films has suffered in the last few years. Even though the music of movies like Sivaji and Enthiran became popular, it was nowhere near exceptional. So will Kabali be able to break this unlucky streak for the Thalaivar? Let's find out! Ulagam Oruvanukka

An album could not have a more amazing start. A very inspiring opening number, it sings all praises of Kabali and the man that he is. Santosh Narayanan has nicely kept the music minimal with more emphasis on clapping and singing so that the lyrics by Kabilan has maximum impact. It is a real pleasant surprise to see Gana Bala using his amazing voice to his full potential for such an inspirational song. The chorus of Santosh, Ananthu and Gana Bala is perfect. But the best part of the song, is the subtle whistling which you can hear in snathches, making it a musical medley. Maya Nadhi

Wow, who said that Santosh Narayan scores loud songs in general. This song will really come as a surprise to many, for it is super melodious. If there is a romantic duet in a gangster film, then this is how it will sound like. Santosh Narayanan has again showed his musical genius by maintaining a very light guitar tune in the backdrop, with maximum focus on the super melodic voices of Ananthu, Pradeep Kumar and Swetha Mohan. But the subtle composition of the song is the true strength of Maya Nadhi. One could even get as bold to claim that this song has a slight touch of Ilayaraaja to it. Veera Thurandhara

This song will give you the feeling of old, classy gangster films with dons in coats and ties. The score by Santosh Narayanan is a fusion of jazz of old times with gangsta rap of today's age, the combination is very interesting and engaging to say the least. Looks like our don Kabali will be along the lines of Godfather. Gana Bala sings in a low, controlled voice but you can still feel the power in it. Roshan Jamrock's energetic rap is simply kickass, making it a song you will listen to on loop.

Vaanam Parthen

Vaanam Parthen is a song that will leave you in tears, with its melancholy and sadness. A truly heart rending number, it is super soft, melodic and really eerie at the same time. Santosh Narayanan has again chosen the wiser option of keeping instruments to a minimum with use of piano, light guitar and snatches of flute here and there. Lyricist Kabilan deserves an award for the lyrics of this song, for it is guaranteed that after listening to this lyrics in the soulful voice of Pradeep Kumar, you will be deeply moved. For those who are not a big fan of melodies, keep listening to this track for it will grow on you.

Neruppu Da

Yes, the song you were all waiting for is finally here and as the title suggests, it is fiery like the Sun! Santosh Narayan had saved all the loudness and the swag for this one song, which makes it that much more addictive. The song begin with loud sounds of sirens and then the electric guitar kicks in with the most amazing beat that would put most rock songs to shame. The rap by Arunraja Kamaraj is so inspiring that it will give you goosebumps for sure. But the best part is the genius touch from Santosh to add ad libbed verses of the Thalaivar himself in the song. So when the Superstar says,"Bayamma?" or when he says," Kabali Da!", you can't help but applaud, such is the awesomeness of this song. Definitely an instant fan favourite and the best track in the album.

Our Verdict

Well safe to say that Santosh Narayan has come up with an album that will be remembered for a very long time, just as the movie will be when it hits the screens. What big composers like AR Rahman could not deliver for Rajinikanth in the last few years, the young Santosh Narayan has done it with a single album. Don't miss listening to this album for your life!
