Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) recently rolled out the updated model of the Africa Twin adventure tourer. It’s just been a week and the 2018 Honda Africa Twin has already received 20 bookings. That means, only 30 units of the bike will be available for buyers. Just so you know, the bikemaker allotted limited 50 units of the new Africa Twin for the country. Previewed at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, the adventure tourer has been made available at Rs 13.23 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). A few lucky customers of the 2018 Honda Africa Twin Honda will get a chance to meet their favorite riders live at MotoGP. The company is also offering a new GP Red colour scheme on the adventure tourer. For 2018 model year, the bike features three new rider aides along with the new rally-style LCD instrumentation and the lighter lithium ion battery. Similar to the old model, the new one will be imported via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, and assembled locally.

2018 Honda Africa Twin Price In India

The Africa Twin is Honda’s first one-litre engine capacity bike manufactured in India. The updated model will be brought here as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit, and then assembled locally at the bikemaker’s Manesar plant. This has helped the company price the new model aggressively. Available with DCT option only, the 2018 Honda Africa Twin comes with price tag of Rs 13.23 lakh thus making it Rs 33,000 more expensive than the old model that was priced at Rs 12.90 lakh. For power, the new Honda adventure motorcycle makes use of the same 998cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled Parallel Twin engine that did duty in the old model. It has a Unicam and 270-degree crankshaft. This motor is capable of delivering a top power of 87bhp at 7,500rpm against a peak torque of 92Nm at 6,000rpm. The bike gets the new DCT (dual-clutch transmission) gearbox with three operation modes – Automatic D, Automatic S and Manual (MT). While the Automatic D mode is suitable for the city and highway rides, the Automatic S model offers three levels for sportier riding.

The MT mode, on the other hand, allows the rider to shift gear with the left handlebar trigger control buttons. The riding modes offer different levels of Power and Engine Braking with pre-set combinations of each parameter, suitable to different riding conditions. The updated mdoel also features new off-road functionality, switchable rear ABS and a G-button that provides half-clutch operation with a ‘hill-hold’ control.  It also gets new HSTC (Honda Selectable Torque Control) system with 7 levels including right from the aggressive riding off-road to maximum sense of security on wet and slippery roads. With the lighter lithium-ion battery, the adventure tourer not only shredded off 2.3kg weight, but is claimed deliver better off-road performance.

Similar to the old model, the 2018 Africa Twin is built on the steel semi-double cradle type chassis with high-tensile strength steel rear sub-frame. With an aim to improve functionality of the adventure tourer, Honda equips the new model with the rally style negative LCD instrument display that shows riding modes, tachometer, speedometer, fuel, HSTC, gear position, clock, trip meter and ABS indicator. The DCT automatic variant get buttons on the left handlebar switchgear. Features such as a small dash and windscreen, wide handlebars and hand-guards, start-up system are also on offer.

2018 Honda Africa Twin Braking & Suspension

Features like ABS (Anti-lock braking system) with rear ABS on/off and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) are standard on the model lineup. Suspension mechanism of the 2018 Africa Twin includes Front Showa 45mm cartridge-type inverted (Upside Down) telescopic fork with dial-style preload adjuster and DF adjustment, 230mm stroke at the front and Monoblock cast aluminium swing arm with Pro-Link with gas-charged damper, hydraulic dial-style preload adjuster and rebound damping adjustment, 220 mm rear wheel travel rear unit.
