Vadodara: Two boys brought laurels to the city by emerging as state toppers in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) advanced 2016, results of which were declared on Sunday.
Shivam Patel, a Gujarat board student of Gotri-based Rameshwar Vidyalaya, topped the state by bagging All India Rank (AIR) 39 with a score of 268 out of 372 marks.
On the other hand, Yash Shah, who had recently emerged as the state topper in the JEE (main) examination after scoring 332 out of 360 marks, scored second highest in Gujarat by bagging AIR 47 in JEE (advanced) with a score of 262 out of 372 marks.

Interestingly, both of them, want to pursue a career in computer science from IIT Mumbai.
"I had started preparations when I was in class nine. Since four years, I have been toiling hard to achieve this. I had made my career choice when I was in standard XI," said Shivam, whose father Babubhai is manager at city-based Dinesh Mills while mother Jagrutiben is teacher at a municipal school.
"Shivam has broken the myth that Gujarat board students cannot perform well in competitive exams," said Jitesh Joshi, centre head of FIITJEE Vadodara.

"I was expecting a bit lower but the ranking is better than my expectations. Now, I am planning to join IIT Bombay to pursue computer science," said Yash, a student of New Era Senior Secondary School.
Like many students, Yash, whose father Divyesh is employed with Gujarat State Fertilizer and Chemicals Limited (GSFC) and mother Kinari is a housewife, too had to sit before computer for at least four hours before he came to know about his results.
"I had started trying at around 10 am and came to know about it at around 2.30 pm as the server was down," he said.
"JEE advance website server was down the whole day so we had to verify the results with those displayed on the notice board of JEE office at IIT Bombay," said Joshi.
