RTI helps disabled man solve the mystery of wife's death

Woman Had Died 14 Days After Child Birth
RTI helps disabled man solve the mystery of wife's death
Ahmedabad: Himesh Vankar and his wife Ganga, both disabled, were on cloud nine as they were expecting their first child. The joy proved short-lived, Ganga died just 14 days after giving birth to a baby girl in February, 2015. For long his wife's death remained a mystery for Himesh and then he used RTI to uncover the truth - his wife had died because a cotton swab had been left in her uterus during the surgery.

Vankar (33), a tailor of Chandrani village of Sabarkantha district, was unable to ascertain the cause of death because the Civil Hospital authorities refused to tell him. He then shot an RTI query to solve the mystery. The reply to his query filed by a senior doctor of Civil Hospital, Dr Asha Shah, revealed that the cause of septicemia is due to a foreign material left inside her reproductive tract. "The reply said that a tampon had been left inside Ganga's uterus which caused septicemia and subsequently her death," said Vankar.
Vankar claims that he also found that Ganga's Mamta card too had been tampered with after her death. Having gathered relevant information with help of RTI, he is now striving hard to lodge a complaint against the doctors of Civil Hospital. "I have filed three RTI queries to gather information on my wife's cause of death. After lodging a complaint with the Gujarat Medical Council I was called on October 28, 2015 and was asked to narrate my case," said Vankar, who now takes care of his infant daughter on his own.
"After hearing my case, authorities of the medical council told me that they would call the doctors and would hear their side of story. They promised me that both the parties will be called together and justice will be done. But nothing further has taken place in the matter since long," he alleged.
Vankar now is a man on mission. He said, "I just have two aims in my life. First, I will help my daughter become a good doctor and will struggle to get justice for my wife. I will fight for this till the end."
