JAMMU, June 12: This Sunday, Natrang presented an emotionally charged performance of a new play in Hindi, ‘Sadaandh’ in its weekly theatre series, Sunday Theatre.
The play which presented different layers and sub-layers of suppressed emotions was originally written in Dogri by Prof Madan Mohan, a noted Dogri writer and was aptly translated in Hindi by Chhatarpal, another accomplished figure of Dogri literature.
The play was directed by Neeraj Kant. Sanjay Kaul, Professor and Chair at Fitchburg State University, USA, was the special guest on the occasion.
The play in a very discreet manner, revealed the eternal decay which constantly burns the unsatisfied people slowly but steadily. Most of these people are those who are consuming their lives purposelessly or with just a paltry purpose. Material gains do not lead to internal peace, this was glaringly expressed in the play.
The play tells us the story of a woman who as a girl had aspired for riches and luxury but after gaining all this as a benefit of marrying to a rich man, she finds it suffocating and meaningless as all this was granted at the cost of killing her internal consciousness.
On getting the piles of riches, she realizes that human emotions, compassion, care, concern, etc are far more important and relevant in living a contended life, on the other hand, money, which makes people run before it with the false promise of happiness, eventually deceives, as the very thought that luxury will generate happiness is a trap and people waste their lives in this deceitful pursuit.
Natrang actors who performed in the play include Aishwarya Sathe, Shivam Singh, Yash Manhas, Kritika Singh, Meenakshi Bhagat, Rajan Thakyal, Mahikshit Singh and Rishabh Sharma. The lights were operated by Neeraj Kant and the music was scored by Brijesh Avtar Sharma. The show was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen and Rahul Singh.
