Fuel station manager stabbed by gang dies

The manager of a fuel station near Madurai District Court complex, V. Somasundaram (44), who was assaulted and stabbed by an unidentified gang at Oomachikulam on Thursday night succumbed to injuries at Government Rajaji Hospital here on Saturday night.

Police said that an autorickshaw hit the two-wheeler on which the victim was returning home at Palamedu after work around 9 p.m.

As he fell down on Oomachikulam-Alanganallur Road, an armed gang got down from the auto and started attacking him with logs, and indiscriminately stabbed him with knives.

Somasundaram was rushed to the GRH. The man who was under treatment did not respond to it and died on Saturday night.

The police were yet to identify the gang and the motive behind the attack. Oomachikulam police who had registered a case of attempt to murder have altered it to a murder case.
