IIT JEE: 3 get over 300 from Kerala

The cut off mark for qualification was fixed at 100 marks.

Thiruvananthapuram: The performance of the students from the state in the Joint entrance examinations (JEE) for admission to IITs announced on Sunday was not impressive. Sources said that only three students from the state could score marks over 300 in the JEE entrance examinations.

They are Athul Ganghadharan of Payyannur with 325 marks out of 360 while Gorgi Joseph of Kochi with 306 out of 360 and Ram Ganesh V of Kochi with 301 out of 360. There were another sevens students who could score over 250 marks. There were over 40 students who scored over 150 marks while 1500 qualified for the test. The cut off mark for qualification was fixed at 100 marks.

Even the top performer of the state was ranked 102. All the other students were ranked below 200.As many 19,820 students had qualified for JEE including 15890 boys and 3930 girls. Aman Bansal of Jaipur, Bhavesh Dhingra of Yamuna Nagar and Kunal Goyal from Jaipur stood first, second and third in the JEE . Riya Singh of Kota was the topper among girls with an All India Rank of 133.

Apart from IITs, admissions are granted to other institutes like Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam and Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram from the examinations.

This year, the JEE Main 2016 exam was conducted in both online as well as offline format. The JEE Main offline test took place on April 3, while the online test (computer based) test for Paper 1 and Paper 2 was held on April 9 and April 10, 2016 respectively.

The rank list was prepared by giving 60 percent weightage to the JEE (Main) score and 40 percent weightage to class 12 board exam marks. The school board or equivalent examination marks will first be normalised and then considered for weightage.
