Patna/Banka: A violent mob attacked Shambhugnaj police station in Banka district on Sunday and torched police vehicles parked on the premises.
The mob also torched some documents kept at the police station. Banka SDPO Shashi Shankar Kumar said the mob of around 150 men and women from Karnpura village under Karsop panchayat in the district turned violent while protesting the failure of the police to arrest those involved in the murder of one Dhirndra Mandal.
Mandal died after he was mercilessly beaten by some people of the village on Saturday over a land dispute.
"The mob suddenly turned violent. Police failed to restrain them due to the presence of large number of women," the SDPO said, adding that situation at the village was under control now. "Several persons were injured in Saturday's scuffle between supporters of A P Mandal and D P Mandal over a land dispute. A P Mandal's son Dhirendra, who was beaten mercilessly, died at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur," the SDPO said, adding that police on Saturday conducted raids at several places to arrest the culprits.
Two separate FIRs have been lodged in connection with the attack on the police station and Dhirendra's murder.
Additional security personnel have been deployed at the village to avoid any untoward incident.
