A woman from Himatnagar in Sabarkantha has accused her Ahmedabad-based husband, who is a cop, and in-laws of demanding Rs 1 crore and a car as dowry.

Palanpur: A woman from Himatnagar in Sabarkantha has accused her Ahmedabad-based husband, who is a cop, and in-laws of demanding Rs 1 crore and a car as dowry. She further accused them of harassing her for giving birth to a girl child three years ago. In her complaint filed with the Himatnagar B-Division police station, the 27-year-old has further alleged that her in-laws were forcing her to have a male child.
Based on the woman's complaint, Himatnagar police has booked her husband Ashok Makwana, father-in-law Mahendra Makwana, brother-in-law Kirit Makwana and two others under section 498 (domestic violence), 504 (assault), 506(b) and 114 of the Indian Penal Code.

B-Division police inspector D D Parmar said that the woman had got married to Ashok when she was 24 years old. "While Ashok was a police sub-inspector, his father is a police inspector with Ahmedabad police. The woman has alleged that her in-laws were demanding Rs 1 crore for building a house and to buy a car," said Parmar, adding that nobody has been arrested in the case.
