BHOPAL: Day after the wife of a retired BHEL official was found dead on railway tracks under Habibganj rail over-bridge, her husband told TOI his wife suffered from chronic depression and was undergoing treatment for many years.
The woman, Usha Agrawal, resided in Saket Nagar with her husband, Purushottam Agrawal. Their children are settled abroad. Police said like every day, the woman went out for a morning walk and when she did not return till late, her husband launched a search.
She was found dead on train tracks under the ROB. A case was later lodged in Habibganj police station.
Last rites of Usha Agrawal were performed during the day. Later, her husband, Agrawal told TOI she would often sink into depression. "She would tell me I cannot work as I am overweight. We have maids and other facilities. There was no reason for her to commit suicide. I don't know under what circumstances she strayed till the railway tracks.
Agrawal said police did not help him to find his wife. "When I contacted Dial 100, police told me it is not their job. They told me to first lodge a missing person report. Later, I decided to search for her myself and found her body on the tracks," he said.
On the cause of death, investigating official G S Malviya said autopsy report is yet to be received. But there is no possibility of foul play, he said.
In another suicide in 24 hours, a 48-year-old man was found hanging in his room on Thursday afternoon. A case was later lodged in Piplani police station. Police said no suicide note was recovered from the spot, but financial crunch could be probable cause. Deceased, T Thomas, was a resident of Sweet Homes in BHEL township.
Police said he had cargo transport business, but did not bag contracts for past few months. His wife works with a private firm. Police said his son returned home in afternoon, but when he did not open the door, he went inside and found his father hanging from the ceiling fan. He would often remain drunk, police said.
