Gurgaon: Work to build the second phase of the 83-km-long Kundli Manesar Palwal expressway will start in a month's time.
According to the officials a survey is under way to determine the work already completed by the earlier concessionaire. The survey is being done by officials of industry body HSIIDC, and the previous and the current concessionaires.
The current concessionaire, Essel Infra, is working towards financial closure.
"Once the financial closure is achieved, work can be started immediately and given that the concessionaire is at an advanced stage in the process, we are hopeful we will be able to start the work within a month," said a senior HSIIDC official., who did not wish to be named.
The Kundli - Manesar part of the expressway will connect the two cities through NH-1 at Kundli, NH- 10 at Bahadurgarh and then Manesar on NH-8 through Badali and Farukhnagar on the way. Officials said that they are looking to complete the construction within 400 days of starting the project.
Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced, at the launch of the Manesar- Palwal stretch of the expressway, that the second phase of the project will be completed within 400 days from the day it starts.
Though the KMP project passes through several districts, including Sonipat, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Mewat and Palwal, it gained momentum after a special thrust by the Khattar government.
Work on the expressway started in 2006 and was to be completed by July 2009 by KMP Expressway Limited. However, as it failed to deliver the project in time, its agreement was cancelled on court orders. The project was earlier slated to be ready by January this year.
The KMP expressway will create a high speed connect between northern Haryana and Southern districts including Gurgaon, Faridabad and Palwal, and decongest the national capital territory.
