Alert truck driver averts fire disaster near Vastrapur Lake
Ahmedabad: It could have been a major fire disaster had the driver of a truck carrying CNG cylinders not been alert. Some of the cylinders had started leaking because of a technical fault when the truck was offloading the cylinders at a petrol pump near the Vastrapur Lake.
Officials of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) said that the incident occurred at around 10 am on Friday.
The driver was standing near the truck and heard a hissing sound from one of the cylinders.
"Unlike LPG, CNG has no odour and thus it is difficult to realize it is leaking," said Rajesh Bhatt, additional chief fire officer, AFES. "The driver took the truck to an open space and started closing the valves. The petrol pump workers called the AFES."
