Commuters sit in protest as bus roof leaks
Coimbatore: Villagers, including school and college students, staged a protest in Pollachi condemning leaky roofs of a government bus forcing Pollachi MLA and deputy speaker of the assembly Pollachi V Jayaraman to come down to the spot and pacify the protesters.
The public alleged that the bus plying between Kaliyappagoundaputhur and Pollachi was the only means of communication by more than a dozen villages in the route.
However, the bus has a track record of breaking down often. Besides the roof of the bus was broken causing discomfort to passengers.
On Friday morning, rain in the locality made the plight of the passengers worse as the broken roof started leaking. The moment the bus reached Pollachi, the drenched passengers got down and sat in front of the vehicle condemning the authorities for the ill-maintained bus.
Officials from the transport corporation rushed to the bus stand and sought to pacify the protesting public. However, the protesting students refused to relent. Pollachi Jayaraman who heard about the protest visited the spot shortly afterwards and held talks with the agitators. He assured that the bus would be replaced soon following which the protest was withdrawn.
