Spate of burglaries in Yercaud

Burglars struck at seven houses located behind the Yercaud bus stand here on Friday.

According to police, the house of Vijayakumar, a resident of Longley Pettai in Yercaud was burgled on Thursday when the family had left for their relative’s house. They found the front door lock broken open and five sovereign gold jewellery and Rs. 15,000 missing.

A complaint was lodged with Yercaud police.

The police also found that six other houses in the area burgled. A ‘hundial’ at the Antoniyar Church was also missing.

Later, the police found the empty ‘hundial’ at a house. The details of jewellery stolen and cash in other houses were yet to be known as few owners are away from home.

Seven injured

Seven passengers were injured when a bus collided with a lorry in Vazhapadi on Friday. R. Palanivel (45) of Thottiyampatti in Attur was driving a lorry from Namakkal to Vazhapadi while the government bus from Villupuram was on its way to Salem.

While the lorry was moving in the over bridge at Pudupalayam in Vazhapadi, the lorry collided with the bus coming in the opposite direction. Six passengers and Palanivel were injured and they were admitted to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.
