Siblings drown in well in Ammoor

Tragedy struck a family in Walajah taluk after two siblings drowned in a well in Ammoor on Friday.

One of them had come home from Chennai to attend their sister’s betrothal .

Police said Raja (20) and his brother Suresh (18), residents of Erukkamthotti village in Walajah taluk, had gone to bathe in the well in Ammoor, nearly two km away, at 10.30 a.m.

Drowned in minutes

Raja who did not know swimming drowned in the well that had water for nearly 20 feet. Suresh, who knew swimming, had tried to rescue his brother but both drowned within minutes.

Their relative, who had accompanied them, informed the family and villagers. However, attempts to find them ended in vain.

Bodies recovered

The personnel attached to Fire and Rescue Services were informed, and they recovered the bodies of the siblings.

Police said Raja was staying with a relative in Chennai and was studying in a private ITI.

Suresh was a daily wage labourer and was staying with his father Varadhan in the village.

Ranipet police have registered a case.
