A 34-year-old fisherman drowned in the sea off Ennore on Thursday evening after the boat in which he was sailing with three others capsized after being struck by a huge wave, police said. While Suman, Thangaraj and

Shankar washed ashore on Friday morning. It was sent to
Stanley Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. Shankar is survived by his wife

Anti- child labour event held: The state labour department held an anti-child labour programme on Friday at
GK Shetty Vivekananda Vidyalaya Junior College in
Ambattur to create awareness about ill effects of employing children. The programme also highlighted provisions of Right to Education Act that enables children to enrol in private schools the cost of which is borne by the government.
TN Faculty assn meets edu minister: Office bearers of the
Tamil Nadu federation of university faculty associations met higher education minister
KP Anbazhagan on Friday. Later, they met at the Madras University teachers' association office and passed resolutions to meet the minister and officials of higher education department at regular intervals and amicably solve issues relating to teachers of universities. They also resolved to convene a state conference in
Trichy to deliberate issues of higher education and
UGC pay scale revision. and to seek grants to state universities to enhance quality of research and infrastructure.
