Justin Bieber sheds tears in new video & 9 other big stories in pop culture

From huge political controversies to some pretty sweet World of Warcraft-inspired celeb ensembles, the week in pop culture was a doozy.

Here’s what you missed if you weren’t paying attention.

1. The Biebs is back

But did he ever really leave? Hot on the heels of his performance at the BBMAs a couple of weeks ago, Justin Bieber released a new video for his single “Company,” and it quickly racked up over 5.4 million views in just 24 hours.

The video features a peek into Bieber’s life on tour and throughout his creative process and even shows a single tear roll down his cheek more than once. Is this the beginning of a whole new soulful Bieber? Only time will tell.

2. Celebs tweet support for Stanford rape victim

Even if you’re not totally caught up in the world of pop culture, chances are you’ve probably heard of Brock Turner by now. The former Stanford student who was convicted of assaulting a young woman on campus was sentenced to just six months in jail, sparking outrage among many. But what’s even worse than the light sentencing is the fact that Turner refuses to apologize to his victim. Instead, he is repeatedly blaming alcohol for his actions.

Celebs like Brie Larson and Mariska Hargitay came out to support the victim, who — though her identity has not been made public — penned a powerful letter to Turner about her experience that she read aloud at his sentencing.

3. Revisionist History podcast hits No. 1 on the iTunes charts

Huge news for fans of Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point and What the Dog Saw: The author is also now a podcaster! Revisionist History will “reinterpret something from the past. An event. A person. An idea. Something overlooked. Something misunderstood. Because sometimes the past deserves a second chance,” according to its official website.

Revisionist History is available for download here.

4. Jamie Lee Curtis goes all out for the Warcraft movie premiere

As if we didn’t already think Curtis was cool enough, now she goes and becomes the Queen of the Gamers. Curtis showed up at the movie premiere based on the classic online game, World of Warcraft, fully decked out in Orc gear with her son. Of course the internet exploded with its approval and adoration.

5. Chewbacca mom rakes in the dough

This Chewbacca-loving woman rose to fame a couple of weeks ago, but popped up again in our feeds this week after it leaked just how much she’s been raking in for her four-minute video — and, of course, the inevitable backlash ensued.

Yahoo News reports she has received swag, gifts and scholarships for her whole family that come to an estimated $420,000. And TMZ says that she was charging $20 for her autograph at a fan expo in Dallas this week.

People have been quick to call out the woman for being greedy and basking in her 15 minutes of fame.

6. Hillary Clinton starts a Twitter battle with Donald Trump

After Trump tweeted, “Obama just endorsed Crooked Hillary. He wants four more years of Obama — but nobody else does!”, Clinton responded by quoting Trump and firing back with, “Delete your account.”

Buckle up, America. Our two most viable candidates for president are feuding on Twitter like they are Khloé Kardashian and Blac Chyna. Looks like 2017 is officially the year I will grab a bottle of vodka and hunker down in my bomb shelter.

7. Stephen King’s new book hits bookshelves

The master of terror returns with his new novel, End of Watch — the final chapter in the Bill Hodges trilogy that was preceded by Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers. The book is already receiving rave reviews and will undoubtedly make for some superb summer reading.

You can buy a hard copy of End of Watch here, and its available for download here.

8. Netflix releases the trailer for its newest show, Stranger Things

This looks like ET meets X-Files with a dash of Girl Interrupted. Sign me up!

9. 82-year-old singer dominates America’s Got Talent

Well, we certainly didn’t see that coming. John Hetlinger rocked the shit out of Drowning Pool’s “Bodies,” and we’re kinda wondering why he even pursued a career in rocket science in the first place.

10. The Legend of Tarzan official trailer drops

Hot damn, Alexander Skarsgård in a loin cloth? I’m already at the premiere in spirit, just counting the seconds until its official release on July 1.

What was your favorite moment in pop culture this week?
