When it comes to assessing his performances, Sumanth Ashwin has devised a simple rule of the thumb. How well he performed usually boils down to how little of Sumanth Ashwin his mom (Sudha) and sister (Rishita) find in the character he's played onscreen. So he was thrilled to hear them say, 'We only saw Ravi,' after watching Right Right recently. 'It means I have succeeded as an actor,' he says with a smile.
Apparently, his family gets to see the first screening of all his films at the theatre owned by them. 'I have many fond memories of watching films at our theatre as a child. Before the first copy of my film is released, my family watches it,' he adds. Having played lover boy roles in his earlier movies, Sumanth is trying something new by playing a bus conductor in Right Right. 'It is a role that will be remembered. So I had no inhibitions saying yes to it,' he says, adding, 'In fact, my inspiration for this film are Mahesh Babu and Venkatesh from SVSC. They had mentioned in so many interviews that they were not heroes; they were only characters. Similarly, I am bus conductor Ravi in the movie and Prabhakar is driver Seshu. That's it. There are no heroes here.' The actor is waiting to see how the audiences will react to Right Right. 'I have watched it 500 times. But how the viewers respond to the movie the first time they watch it is what excites me the most,' he says, signing off. Right Right, produced by J Vamsi Krishna under Sri Satya Sai Entertainments, releases today.
