The Amboli police have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly murdering his friend. The deceased person used to stalk and harass the arrested person's wife and, in a fit of rage, the accused allegedly stabbed his friend to death.

The arrested person has been identified as Tej Bahadur Maurya.

According to the police, Jogeshwari residents Maurya and the deceased Rajesh Singh (25) knew each other for a long time and were good friends. Both were poor and did small chores for their living.

"Singh, who resides on a footpath opposite Maurya's building, would often stalk the latter's wife. On Wednesday, around 10pm, when Maurya's wife was coming out of her building, Singh came in front of her and began molesting her by touching her inappropriately. The woman, who was annoyed by this act, started quarrelling with Singh and the duo soon entered into a heated argument," said a police officer.

He added that when Maurya, after learning about the incident, came to resolve the dispute and tried to make Singh understand that he was wrong, Singh started scuffling with him, after which the duo got into a fight. "After a while, Maurya suddenly took a sharp knife that was kept near him and allegedly stabbed Singh. Singh fell unconscious and while he was being rushed to hospital, he died due to excessive bleeding and severe wounds," the officer said.

One of the eyewitnesses then registered a complaint against Maurya after which he was immediately nabbed by the police. "After arresting Maurya, we have recovered the weapon used in the killing and are also interrogating him. We are probing the matter further and have booked Maurya on charges of murder," said the officer.
