Viewers unimpressed by the lack of country music at the CMT Awards

While there were tons of stars, glitz, and glamour at the CMT Music Awards last night, fans were left scratching their heads over the lack of the one thing they anticipated most from the show -- country music.

Fans began to notice something was off when the show opened with a performance by Billy Ray Cyrus and Cheap Trick for the punk anthem, "Surrender."

It only got progressively more genre-bending from there, despite each act having some country music representation.

Rapper Pitbull later took the stage with help from pop singer Leona Lewis and Cassadee Pope for the spirited number, "Messin' Around."

Another seemingly random addition to the mix was R&B maestro Pharrell, who teamed up with Little Big Town for the duet, "One Dance."

While there were country performances from the likes of Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, and Florida Georgia Line, viewers were quick to take to social media to complain about the confusing ration of pop music to country.
