The Diaspora will participate tomorrow in the continued reading of “Metamorfosia” by Kafka at the Arriaga Theater

The continuous reading of classics in Basque, is organized every year by the Bilbo Zaharra Euskaltegi, and this year feature’s The Metamorphosis by Austrian writer Franz Kafka.  The work celebrates one hundred years and was chosen to assert the importance of translation.  As is the custom, nearly 30 Basque clubs will join in the initiative and will read some passages from the book through previously recorded videos. 

Bilbo, Bizkaia.   The Diaspora will have a place tomorrow at the Arriaga Theater in Bilbao where the 9th edition of the continuous reading of a classic in Basque will take place, Klasikoen IX. Irakurketa Jarraitua. This initiative, supported by the Euskaltegi Bilbo Zaharra will include the participation of 28 Basque clubs, managed through HABE’s Euskara Munduan Program.

As in prior editions, Basque students at these Basque clubs previously record themselves reading some passages from the book that will be shown tomorrow at the Arriaga, interspersed with the rest of the readers.

"The Metamorphosis" celebrates one hundred years

This year marks one hundred years since the publication of The Metamorphosis, by Austrian writer Franz Kafka, as the Klasikoen Irakurketa wanted to pay tribute to the master work of world literature, while asserting the importance of translation, especially in the world of Basque literature.  At tomorrow’s event the translation done by Anton Garikano will be read by over 400 people.

In prior editions the following works were selected: Gero, by Axular, Peru Abarca, by Mogel, Haur besoetakoa, by Jon Mirande, Hamaika pauso, by Saizarbitoria,  Zergatik panpox, by Arantxa Urretabizkaia, Obabakoak, by Bernardo Atxaga,  Harri eta herri, by Gabriel Aresti, and last year, Narrazioa Guztiak, by Sarrionandia.
