Former deputy speaker of Vidhan Sabha, Bir Devinder Singh, who was recently expelled by the Congress for indiscipline Wednesday broke his silence of over a fortnight when he dared Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh to  take action against Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa for allegedly slapping a colleague or revoke his (Bir’s) expulsion.

Reacting to Randhawa’s alleged act of hitting the district president of Sewa Dal IS Gulati during a dharna Wednesday, Devinder said, “I want Amarinder to show his guts and take action against Randhawa. He should be suspended forthwith. We expect him to exhibit his wisdom in maintaining discipline.”

“Amarinder should apply the same yardstick to handle indiscipline. A message should not go that his cronies can do anything and get away,”  Devinder said, adding,  “If Amarinder does not want to take action and he has softened his stand on indiscipline then he should exhibit magnanimity and revoke my expulsion. At least, I did not indulge in any violence , that too against a colleague. My fault was only that I expressed my views through a newspaper column. I was just exercising my democratic right. Randhawa’s violence is covered under the IPC. If no action is taken against him then why should a humble man like me suffer?” asked Devinder .

Devinder took a dig at Amarinder and Randhawa Wednesday after a meeting with Congress strategist Prashant Kishor and Amarinder had yielded. Before that he had abstained from extending support to another party rebel and expelled colleague, Jagmeet Singh Brar for his rally on May 21.
