Nottinghamshire break 400run barrier again
Northamptonshire only lost by 20 runs after responding with 425.
LONDON (AFP) - Michael Lumb scored his second hundred in three days as Nottinghamshire again surpassed the 400-run mark on their way to a victory in English county cricket’s 50-over One-Day Cup on Wednesday.
Lumb, 36, who played the last of his three one-day internationals for England in 2014, struck 133 in a total of 415 for five against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge that included 94 from Australia’s Dan Christian.
The visitors managed a decent reply of 379, featuring exactly 100 from former England batsman Jonathan Trott and a score of 60 from Ian Bell, aiming to regain his Test place, but still lost by 36 runs.
Wednesday’s match came just two days after saw Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire took part in a record-breaking run-fest at Trent Bridge in another One-Day Cup Group A match.
Nottinghamshire made a mammoth 445 for eight, with openers Lumb (184) and Riki Wessels (146) sharing a colossal stand of 342, which was the highest ever made in English List A cricket.
It also surpassed the previous best one-day stand in England of 324 by India’s Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid against Sri Lanka at Taunton in the 1999 World Cup.
Northamptonshire only lost by 20 runs after responding with 425, featuring Rory Kleinveldt’s 128 off 63 balls.
The total number of runs in the match was 870, three more than the previous record from a Friend’s Provident Trophy tie between Surrey and Glamorgan at The Oval in 2002.
