Vijayapura: Primary and secondary education minister Kimmane Ratnakar said that a final decision on shutting government schools with less enrolment of students would be taken in August or September after holding discussions with all the stakeholders.
Speaking to reporters here at the Congress office on Wednesday, he said the issue has not yet been finalized.
He said that the Right to Education Act has been successfully implemented in the state while it failed in Gujarat and was not implemented at all in Punjab.
To a question, he said the government was aware of the problems being faced by the government schools in border areas and a meeting would be convened in July to discuss the same.
Expressing confidence that the Congress would win the MLC elections from the teachers and graduates constituencies, the minister said various welfare measures taken by the state government for the teachers and the graduates would help the party.
