Aliyar water released

Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Pollachi V. Jayaraman in the presence of Collector Archana Patnaik and Superintending Enginer R. Ilangovan opened the sluices of the Aliyar Reservoir to release water for irrigation on Wednesday.

A release said that water from the reservoir would irrigate old ayacut areas.

Over the next 11 months, the Public Works Department would release 11,077.58 million cubic feet water to irrigate 6,400 acres in the ayacut. It would release the water in varying quantities based on crop requirement in two agriculture seasons. At present, the reservoir had 86 feet water.

The full reservoir level is 120 feet.
