Meenakshi Lekhi distributes aid to ‘victims of violence’

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi, MP, has demanded that the State government provide compensation to victims of violence.

Inaugurating a protest gathering organised by the BJP at Pinarayi, the village of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, here on Wednesday, the BJP leader said that houses of BJP workers at Pinarayi had been damaged in attacks by CPI(M) workers after the Assembly election.

Stating that the Chief Minister was denying citizens’ rights to the people of his own village, she said that 15 houses and two institutions of BJP workers at Pinarayi had been vandalised by the CPI(M) workers.

CM’s duty

As the Chief Minister, Mr. Pinarayi was obliged to provide justice to the people of the State irrespective of their caste, creed and politics, she said adding that he had no moral right to continue as Chief Minister.

Ms. Lekhi said the CPI(M) was curtailing rival party workers’ rights by means of violence.

The BJP would approach courts, human rights commissions for justice, Ms. Lekhi stated.

The MP also disbursed the party’s financial assistance to the victims of violence.

Former BJP State presidents P.K. Krishnadas and V. Muraleedharan, party State general secretary Shobha Surendran, and district president P. Sathyaprakash were present at the function.

A large posse of police personnel were also deployed in the area, which is located close to the Chief Minister’s house.
