M.K. Damodaran is new legal adviser

The State Cabinet has decided to appoint senior High Court lawyer M.K. Damodaran legal adviser to the government.

A government press note said here on Wednesday that Mr. Damodaran would function as legal adviser without any honorarium. The Cabinet decided to appoint John Brittas, managing director, Kairali TV, media adviser to the Chief Minister and former Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre director M. Chandra Dathan scientific adviser. Both would function without any honorarium.

The Cabinet authorised the Thiruvananthapuram District Collector to identify a location to provide five cents of land and a 1,200 square feet house to the late Major Manoj Kumar, who died in the fire outbreak at the Indian Army’s arms store in Maharashtra.

Job for late Major’s wife

The late Major’s parents would be paid a monthly a ex gratia of Rs.5,000 for lifetime. The State government would also appeal to the Centre to provide employment to the late Major’s widow commensurate with her educational qualifications. If the Centre rejected the plea, the State government would create a supernumerary post to provide her employment.

The Cabinet would give Rs.2 lakh each to relatives of those who drowned in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, and Kannur over the past few days. The relatives of Nishanth, the student of the MGTHS, Mukhathala, who was fatally hit by a falling pillar of the school building, would be given Rs.3 lakh. Families of those electrocuted in Palakkad would be given Rs.2 lakh each and the family of Christy John, who was killed by his neighbour, would be given Rs.5 lakh. The family of Ajayan, the youth who had drowned in the Periyar Valley Canal would be given Rs.2 lakh.

The Cabinet gave additional charge of water resources, coastal shipping, inland navigation, and inter-State water disputes cell to Additional Chief Secretary V.J. Kurien, additional charge of animal husbandry, dairy and zoos to Transport Secretary K.R. Jyothilal and appointed B. Ashok, Secretary, AYUSH, Rani George, Secretary, museum, archaeology and archives, and T. Bhaskaran, Secretary, land board.

It also appointed Padmakumar, Joint Secretary, land revenue board, and Director, coir, and gave additional charge of the Kochi Cancer Institute to District Collector M.C. Rajamanikiam.
