JAMMU, June 8: The War Wounded Foundation, a registered charitable Non-Government Organisation (NGO), organised a rally for war disabled personnel of all Northern States at the Manekshaw Auditorium, Chandimandir, today.
The aim of honouring the war disabled soldiers and giving visibility to the Foundation and its work were fully achieved. Nearly 150 war disabled personnel, some in wheel chairs and crutches had participated in the Rally.
Chief guest at the rally was Lieutenant General KJ Singh, Army Commander, Western Command. He honoured the war disabled personnel present, as also the very seriously ill soldiers of the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) Mohali, who had been specially brought for the event.
During his address, Lieutenant General Vijay Oberoi, President War Wounded Foundation and Former Vice Chief of Army Staff, who himself is a war disabled officer of the 1965 India-Pakistan War, sporting an artificial leg for over 50 years, gave an overview of war disabled soldiers and their difficulties and challenges. He also touched upon the on-going work of the Foundation, which is aimed at long-term rehabilitation and financial improvement of all war disabled personnel.
Lt Gen KJ Singh, while addressing the gathering praised the War Disabled Personnel for their selfless service to the Nation and further exhorted each member to continue to achieve skills to make their own dreams come true, so that they can stand on their feet. He also assured them of all help and support from the Army.
Chief of Army Staff, General Dalbir Singh had sent a cheque for the Foundation. The Western Army had also presented a cheque.
A Medical Camp was also organised for the war disabled, which was well attended by the war disabled personnel.
