Shingo Wake, Jonathan Guzman to fight for junior featherweight title

Boxing

Japanese southpaw Shingo Wake and Jonathan Guzman, of the Dominican Republic, will meet for a vacant junior featherweight world title on July 20 at Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan, Kyoei Promotions announced this week.

Wake (20-4-2, 12 KOs) and Guzman (21-0, 21 KOs), will meet for the belt recently vacated by Northern Ireland's Carl Frampton, who is moving up in weight to challenge featherweight titleholder Leo Santa Cruz on July 30.

"Before my hair gets disheveled I wish to finish Guzman," Wake said.

Wake became a mandatory challenger by virtue of his unanimous decision win against Mike Tawatchai in their title eliminator last June in Tokyo.

Guzman, 26, knocked out Daniel Rosas in the eighth round on April 29 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in a title eliminator.

In the card's main event, Japan's Kazuto Ioka (19-1, 11 KOs), 27, will defend his secondary flyweight world title for the third time when he squares off with Kyvin Lara (18-1-1, 6 KOs), 21, of Nicaragua.
