Nicola Rizzoli, who was the referee for the 2014 World Cup final, will officiate England's Euro 2016 opener against Russia.

The 44-year-old Italian took charge of Germany's extra-time win against Argentina in Brazil two years ago and starts this summer's tournament officiating at the Stade Velodrome.

Rizzoli refereed England's 1-1 draw with France in the Euro 2012 group stage and will be assisted by compatriots Elenito Di Liberatore and Mauro Tonolini in Marseille.

Last season, Rizzoli took charge of Manchester United's 2-1 Group B Champions League defeat to PSV in September, where Luke Shaw suffered a double leg break after a strong challenge from Hector Moreno. The Mexico international was booked for the heavy tackle.
