Many of the world's top tennis players will be competing in the US Open at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center from August 29 to September 11.

Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) June 08, 2016

The US Open will draw the top tennis players in the world and thousands of fans to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York from August 29 to September 11. Some talented players who have been making their mark recently could beat longtime favorites. Several changes have been made to the venue to improve the experience for fans who gather to watch the matches.

Players to Watch

One player who has drawn the attention of fans is Garbine Muguruza, who became the first Spanish woman to win the French Open in nearly 20 years. She stopped the world's No. 1 player, Serena Williams, from winning her 22nd Grand Slam title and tying Steffi Graf's record. Muguruza has won eight of her last 11 matches against players in the Top 10 and has advanced to the fourth round or later six times in 14 Grand Slams. However, she has only advanced past the first round in the US Open once.

David Goffin is currently ranked 13th in the world, the highest rank ever for a Belgian singles player. He advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon last year, made it to his first ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinal, and was the first Belgian to make an appearance in the David Cup Final since 1904. He advanced to the semifinals at both the BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open.

Venue Upgrades

A new retractable roof has been added to the Arthur Ashe Stadium. This will allow matches to continue uninterrupted, regardless of weather conditions. The addition of the roof will not lower the seating capacity in the stadium and will not affect views of the Manhattan skyline.

A new Grandstand stadium with 8,000 seats is being constructed in the southwest portion of the grounds. It will be sunken in the ground and will have an asymmetrical design and sun canopy to provide shade for spectators. Fans will be able to walk all the way around the stadium and will be able to watch matches from a patio viewing area. The older Grandstand is still there but will not be used.

New food options will be available at eight new concession stands. Fans will also be able to relax at a picnic area. The Food Village is being expanded to provide spectators with more options.

The USTA self-financed the cost of these improvements through bonds and USTA revenue. The upgrades will not affect ticket prices.
