Class 4 student killed in school wall collapse

Dharmapuri: A Class 4 student died due to severe head injuries after a compound wall collapsed on him while he was playing in the school premises. The incident took place at a government school, in Kudumiyampatti, near Harur in Dharmapuri district on Tuesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Vishal, 9, son of Veerappan and Sasikala of Kudumiyampatti village.
On Tuesday evening, Vishal was seen playing near the compound wall with his friends during an interval. "The wall is quite old and a chunk of the wall collapsed and fell on the boy," Harur police said. They added that no one else was injured in the incident.
A big chunk of the wall fell on Vishal's head, and he suffered a deep cut on his skull. Teachers rushed him to the government hospital in Harur, but he died in the hospital without responding to treatment, police said.
After news spread of the incident, education department officials, revenue officials and the Harur police rushed to the spot and initiated inquiry with school authorities and students.
A case was registered and further investigations are underway.
