The S. Chellappa Commission of Inquiry for Scheduled Tribes will conduct a study in Kinwat town of Nanded district in Maharashtra on Wednesday with regard to the enthnographic profile of Kaithi Lambada community, also known as Mathura community, there.
The study is being done to correlate the data collected in Telangana and Maharashtra in order to submit a report to the State Government with the aim of the community getting included in the list of the Scheduled Tribes.
Commission Chairman S. Chellappa and members K. Jagannadha Rao, H.K. Nagu and secretary K. Veeramallu will look into the kinship of the Mathura community, their lifestyle, traditions, customs and social mores in Kinwat. “We are using a multi- pronged approach to arrive at conclusions in our studies,” Mr. Chellappa told {-T}{-h}{-e}{-H}{-i}{-n}{-d}{-u} during a transit halt at Adilabad on Tuesday.
“We have made similar enthographic studies of the Valmiki Boyas in Raichur and Bellary of Karnataka and Visakhapatnam district in Andhra. Government nod is awaited for a study of the population of these tribes,” he added.
Some social organisations belonging to Mathua community claim that the population of Kaithi Lambadas in Telangana, concentrated mostly in Nizamabad, Adilabad and one mandal in Medak district is 1 lakh.
