Cong gave identity to Kamat for 40 years: Ex-CM Gehlot
Jaipur: Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday criticised ex-union minister Gurudas Kamat for resigning from the Congress in a sudden and unilateral manner. Gehlot said Kamat should have abstained from taking such a step since the party had given him an identity across the country for 40 years.
Speaking to reporters in Udaipur, Gehlot said Kamat should have expressed his grievances before Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
"A situation of retirement should not have been let to emerge. Talking about retirement all of a sudden does not send across a good message," the former CM said.
Earlier, Gehlot made his views public through a post from his account on the Facebook. "Congress General Secretary and Rajasthan in-charge, Kamat Ji should take any decision only after meeting with our hon'ble leaders Smt. Sonia Ji and Shri Rahul Ji. Every Congress worker expects the same from him," Gehlot's post read. He added, "We should stand united like a rock for the party in this hard time. When the top leadership of the party has shown faith in us, we shouldn't give up. Let us work towards making Congress stronger in all possible manners."
On the other hand, Congress workers and leaders were already discussing Kamat's probable replacement from among AICC office-bearers to head party's affairs in Rajasthan.
