Slackers

This world-record slackline walk is simply terrifying.

The video above wastes zero time getting your pulse pounding. Yikes. Without giving anything away, I’ll just say that the sound this slackline daredevil’s safety harness makes is what I would sound like up there.

The daredevil in question is Danny Menšík. He’s in, or above, Aiglun, France, walking a slackline—webbing strung, in this case, 600 terrifying meters up in the air between two mountain peaks. He and his friend, so-called “balance athlete” Nathan Paulin, are attempting to break Paulin’s previous world record for the longest slackline walk. The previous record is 493 meters; this line is a kilometer long.

The video is eye-popping, and not just because these two crazy men are walking over a beautiful locale. If you’re at all acrophobic like me, this has to make your legs and midsection go wobbly.

Paulin, in red, spends an hour and 15 excruciatingly tense minutes up there trying to beat his own record. Personally, I wouldn’t spend one single second.
